| Our Treatment Team Jackie Holmes, M.Ed., MFT--Program Founder and Director Jackie has been working in the Eating Disorders Field for over 30 years. She was the Inpatient Clinical Coordinator for 5 years at Mt. Diablo's Serenity Program and for the last 18 years as been working as an outpatient therapist at the Concord Therapy Center for Eating Disorders. She also teaches at JFK university in the Eating Disorders Certification Program. Having struggled with her own recovery from Bulimia and BED, she brings a personal dedication to helping those who are suffering, to find their own personal path of recovery. It was her frustration with the lack of services in Contra Costa County for women that led her to develop Casa Serena. It is her goal to provide a safe place with an experienced staff dedicated to helping these clients to develop their own healing plan. Karen Scheuner M.A., R.D.--Program Dietitian Karen has worked at El Camino Hospital Eating Disorders IOP Program, Center for Discovery in Menlo Park and she also works at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation as their dietitian. Karen brings a deep understanding and compassion for working with this population. She comes from a culinary background and shops to shop at the farmer's market and practices yoga daily. She teaches the Nutrition class and designs the individualized meal plans for each client in the program. Maria Miller, MFT--Yoga and Multi Family Therapist Maria teaches the Yoga class bringing a gentle awareness to the body through movement, and helps clients develop a deeper connection to their body. She also leads the Multi-Family Group and helps families identify their roles and ways to help in the recovery process for their loved ones. She has a private practice through the Concord Therapy Center where she offers individual and family therapy as well as facilitating the Teen Group on Monday evenings. She has worked at Alta Bates Eating Disorders Program and has been in private practice for x years. Claudia, Sieber, MFT--Contracts Group and DBT Therapist Claudia has been with Casa Serena from the inception as an intern and now as a licensed MFT. She facilitates the contract group and assists with outings and the dinner meal group. She also facilitates the DBT skills Group. She is a tireless advocate for these clients and brings a warmth and understanding of the struggle to recover to each client. Claudia is in private practice in Oakland, offering grief groups and individual therapy. Beth Bernstein, MFT--Body Image Therapist Beth comes to us from Beyond Hunger where she was co-facilitating eating disorders groups. She also has a private practice in Oakland/Berkeley area. She brings a real enthusiastic approach to helping women get free from distorted body images. Beverly Swann, MFT-- Living Skills Group Therapist Beverly joins the staff as our Living skills group leader. She brings her creative ability to each group she does. She is also in private practice in the Pleasant Hill area. Astra Kim--Office Manager and Intake Coordinator When you first call our program Astra is usually the first person you talk to. She will help you understand the process and procedures related to admission, help verify insurance and set up your financial contract. She handles all the billing and all general office duties. She is an invaluable asset to our overall program. |
