Casa Serena Eating Disorders Program
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What are the ages of the clients in the program? Do you treat teenagers and males?
We currently serve women 18 years of age and older. We have plans to open an adolescent
program for 16 to 18 year olds in the near future, as well as seeking to serve men. There are also
OA and ANAD groups specifically for the eating disordered client offered through the center.
2. What is the length of stay in the program?
The basic Intensive Outpatient Program is 10 weeks. The program meets from 4:30 p.m. to
8:30 p.m., 4 days a week, Monday through Thursday. Most clients will stay longer than 10 weeks,
length of stay in determined during the treatment planning phase after the initial intake evaluation.
3 How often do I meet with the Dietitian?
Since each treatment plan is individualized , you can choose to meet with the dietitian more often if
needed as is identified in your treatment plan. Clients will see the dietitian at least once a week.
There are also a weekly Nutrition class.
4. What is the Dietary Program like? Do you allow for vegetarian diets and food allergies?
The Dietary Staff works individually with each client to design a program to fit your lifestyle.
We also seek to accommodate food allergies, when your doctor documents them.
We understand that FOOD is a central issue with all of our clients, and from the first day they
start the program they will be planning, shopping for and preparing some meals, with the
supervision of the Dietary Staff. Other meals will be provided. We have restaurant outings once or
twice a month to help the client de-sensitize around eating in public settings.
5. How are my family members, spouse and support systems involved in my treatment
plan?
We offer a weekly multi-family group, to address issues related to the eating disorder
dynamics in the family and in your significant relationships. Our goal is to help everyone
find more positive ways to support the client's recovery, as well as build on family
communication skills. Individual family and/or couple sessions are also available when
needed and are billed separately.
6. How do I know if this is the right program for me? Who do you serve?
The program is designed currently to treat women who are wanting additional support in their
overall recovery program. Sometimes these are women who are either returning from inpatient or
residential treatment programs, and they are looking for a "Step-down" component to help with the
transition back into their lives here at home.
Sometimes they are women who are seeking an adjunct to their current outpatient treatment, but
they are seeking more structure and support, without upsetting their work, family or school
settings. These are women who are medically stable, but still struggling with the behaviors and
the recovery process.
Our overall goal is to provide an option for women who need more structure, but can't afford or don't
want to attend an inpatient program or they can't leave the area because of work, school or family
obligations.
7. Does insurance cover this program?
Some insurance companies will cover some or all of the program. We advise each client to
research their coverage prior to the intake evaluation. We will provide super-bills for submission to
your insurance. It is important to understand that the client is fully responsible for all charges.
Currently we are contracting with Managed Health Network, Aetna, United Behavioral Health and
Value Options. Many other insurance companies have been willing to set up Single Case
Agreements for our program.
